-freezing and snowing in seoul, korea (its -10 people)

im currently standing (yes, there isn't even a chair) at The Savoy blogging. its a freezing -10 degrees and wrapped up like a dumpling. the hotel is indeed at a very strategic position whereby its right smack in the middle of the equivalent of Ginza shopping area in Tokyo, Japan with heaps of stuff to buy. *grins* ufortunately for me, im forced to survive without my cell till Sat because Korea happens to have a different telecommunication service from the rest of the world. oh well... at least im here and its actully snowing outside at the moment and is beautiful!!! (forgive for being abit 'jeng' but its kinda my 1st time experiencing a real snow fall)

anyway, at least there's Internet connection whereby im not cut off from the rest of the world. tomorrow morning, im heading to some city which is a 4 hour bus ride away. so i better take the opportunity to shop as much as i can!!! so far, got a couple of makeup stuff from EtudeHouse (very popular Korean facial&beauty brand) and a pair of heels. been trying to get a boots to keep my poor frezing feet warm. however, apparently Korean girls have really tiny feet as i could find nothing that fits me!!! (annoyed and frustrated). oh well, will try harder later after dinner. since im with my dad, he's really strict about me buying stuff. i'll just hafta try harder!!! which reminds me... i wonder whats for dinner? (i just had a steaming hot bowl of ginseng chicken stuffed with rice for lunch 4 hours ago)...

LOLZ... bet Chris is praying his princess is still able to fit into her clothes even after he holidays back in KL and elsewhere round the globe...

my apologies for the lack of posts...

i know, i know... this shouldnt be an excuse for the significant lack of posts over the last month but i have been REALLY busy with work. its hard for one to imagine how busy work can get at Starbucks, especially when all the other partners are almost paid to chat and 'hit mossies'; but i am speaking the truth, the whole truth and NOTHING but the truth!!! the 1st 3 months of 2006 would indeed be a hectic month for the city of Melbourne, let alone Starbucks City Square! TheLionKing has been one of the sources of our major customer base and the strangest thing is that they all come at the SAME time!!! thats right! and until today, all my fellow partners still wonder why... what isit of CitySquare that attracts people like you and i so much? there are 4 other Starbucks within the vicinity of 0.5km radius yet they all flock here?!

i was hit on by a German customer during my 9am-4pm shift yesterday. he came in and ordered a Tall Latte and as usual, i asked him for his name to mark the cup.

can i have a name for your order sir?
its Hans. Hans as in German. im 20, single and on a vacation visa.

then Aaron (my gay partner), as are all guy partners at Starbucks City Square (except my wonderful new manager Andres who is purely straight) 'kaypohly' chippped in:

Min's (that's how im refered to at work with a few other variations of course like Mincetart Min, MiniMin etc.) visiting Germany in early March too...

and that SO did it. he started writing my details of places in Germany to visit. i politely accepted and thanked him (as i do to all customers) for his kindness. his friend was chuckling behind him and Aaron and Bronwen were giggling behind the Bar.

look at Min hit...
i am NOT!!! besides, i am seeing someone else now...

before i could even finish that, he came back and left me his email add. i related that to Chris over dinner that night with LeeInn and May and they just laughed. i was speechless. one of the other partners was hit on by one of the LionKing actors. he plays the role of Musafa. never did i think i would be as well.. =P also that morning, i had a VERY rude American customer that ordered a Grande MochaFrappucinno and wanted extra whip cream and chocolate drizzle. we had to charge an extra $0.30 and $0.60 seperately for them. so says Starbucks and he started kicking a fuss about how absurd it was to charge him extra. hey dude!!! im a bloddy barista that merely works there! it isn't as if i set the rules and prices?!!! besides, it isn't as if im going to get a single cent extra from the price charged from those purchases??!!! im on a SALARY for crying our loud!!! *rolls eyes*

anyway, im finally returning to kl this Sunday Jan22nd. my dad is counting the days to me returning and Chris (and my manger Andre) will be waiting patiently in Melbourne for my return that is scheduled mid March. he was kind enough to allow me to go on holiday instead of being rehired.

oh well, looking forward to catching up with many many of you that i haven seen or heard from in awhile. my contacts are still the same so call me after 9pm kl time this Sunday. when i return to Melbourne, accomdation needs to be settled, work will probably be extremely busy because of the GrandPrix, ComedyFestival and CommonwealthGames all happening in unison. its bad enough now already when the AustralianOpen has just started 2 days ago!!!

SEE YA ALL REAL SOON!!!! (gotta get ready for work and pick up tickets for this Friday's Memoirs of a Geisha)

goodbye apartment 871...

dec21st 2005 marks the end of my 2 year stay at apartment 871. it has also been home for 2 of my 3 years here in melbourne. i spent 3 whole days packing. thank God mum extended her stay to help me. else, i would have had a nervous breakdown!!! i seriously had NO idea this tiny 2 bedroomk duplex could hold THAT much stuff!!! mum was shaking her head and grumbling while packing... claiming i have enough clothes and shoes to last a lifetime! i didn't dare argue back just in case she 'ba gong' and didn't want to continue helping me with the packing... anyway, here i am sitting my bed (which has no sheets) of 2 years in my almost empty room (except a few pieces of paper and my still connected phone line and my laptop, of course) i feel like crying... this place has provided more than a rooft and shelter for me but has housed so many memories... so much of my discovery and learning journey has taken place here, at 871/488 Swasnson Street!!! i don't want to leave... *wails and wails*

it is shocking how emotionally attached i have been to this place... the tiny stairs has acted as a cozy area where friends huddled around and talked. shared life together. those days where people like Rachel, Charlotte, Kenny and i laughed and cried together over steaming mugs of tea and my famous red bean soup. the hall cum dining area has been a place where people from all walks of life gathered for Descoverie*, dinner parties of steak and steamboat were held or just dvd marathons over pop corn and ice cream. long long talks with adam and cindy... (miss you guys heaps already!!!) my room has been my favourite place of the apartment. its not huge or flashy like many of my wealthy friends whose nests are at Toorak or Southbank but everyone that has seen/ stayed in it loves it!!! cozy them claim. too bad i never had pictures just of the room itself... now its been stripped bare like when i first arrived in feb20 2005. due to the size, i had my architecture friends arranged the furniture brilliantly so that there would be sufficient space for my stuff. (yes, i already had so much since 1st year) my bed was by the balcony glass door where i could see sunrise and sunset from the edge of my bed. it was lovely!!! the balcony was a good size where we could host a mini bbq of 6 people comfortably (which i regret till date i never took the initiative in realizing it) i remember those days where Kenny and i would just sit there and i would hear him whinge about his then liking of this girl which shall remain anoynomous; the times spent with Rach loving life yet bitching about it the very same time; Charlotte and LeeInn sleeping over in my prized MountFeathertop sleeping bag or even just my very own haven to unwind and rest or run away from the busy busy world out there. so often when i fail to fall asleep at night i would lie in my bed and turn open the blinds and stare at the sky. or lie in bed and read or watch tv. i did everything (well almost everything) here... eat, sleep, laugh, cry, dress up, study and stress over assignments and exams and the list goes on. heck!!! 2 years of my life is written all over the walls!!! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! i dowan to move... *clings on to railing of the stairs*

to apartment 871, i would never forget the bittersweet moments that occured here. to my precious friends that has shared the last 2 years with me, i hold close every memory to my heart. to God who has been faithful, i look forward to the future that You have already maped out for me. a toast to apartment 871 for being part and parcel of miniee's life. cheers!!!

fulfilling Monday...

i can't believe i took the whole of yesterday to put my resume together... i had to literally force myself to sit in front of the pc and start typing. the whole feeling of rushing -to-meet-assignments-deadline came back. i sat in front of my pc and started compiling my very own while reading 10 other references generously 'donated' by my dear friends... thank you all who have contributed. finally, at 2am it was done!!! never did i expect it'll take that long!!! *rolls eyes*

i also seized yesterday to ring up the storage and arranged on my moving date. thank goodness i don't have that much stuff and big furniture , else i'll be paying a fortune for storage and not to mention the hassle of moving!!! i guess i won't be seeing my stuff till at least March. i'm definitely gonna miss apartment 871. i've grew to love my room especially whereby its my own sanctuary where i rest and be quiet. i've got an amazing view and its cozy...

and yes, im returning to KL... just a matter of when and how long. that also depends on when i get a full-time job. im so gonna miss Starbucks... *sob sob*

my birthday's also next Sunday... even i find it hard to belive especially it seemed like only yesterday i celebrated my 21st. =) i have already sent out the invites and this is where i've decided to have it:

http://www.livebait.com.au/

would love feedback from you guys of what you think of the place...
due to the 'generic fine dining restaurant rule' whereby im only allowed to have a maximum of 12 people for ale carte menu, i was forced to cut my list down to 12 (including the birthday girl herself). and, im doing an additional lunch thing just with the girls... man, when i have more money next time, i'm so gonna book out an entire patio or courtyard to have everyone together in the same place! instead of complying to this rule which i do think is quite stupid...

tomorrow, im going shopping with Rachel before she leaves for Singapore in a weeks time. then i'll be busy working till Sunday. heh, tomorrow also happens to be pay day!!! *leaps in joy* however, i'm being very prudent with my money because there are a whole list of other things im planning on getting... *grins*

saying goodbye can be one of the hardest thing to do especially when you're not used to it...

another friend of mine - Z is moving to Seattle with his family next January and possibiliy never returning to KL, hopping on to join to the migration band wagon... *sob sob* man, is KL life really that unpleasant that almost everyone that when given a choice would choose to leave then stay back? sigh... this is a question i myself have been wrestling with daily... it seems to be everywhere else in the world to spend the next few years of my life except KL at this point of time. almost... jealous wei Z, one of the 'must do's' in my life is to live in the States for awhile.

i guess one of the main reasons why i dislike KL is the hectic lifestyle where there isn't much appreciation of quality of life, at least to my standards at this point of time. the weather and safety are the 2 main things that make alot of activities that i enjoy in Melbourne appear 'unattractive' in KL:

example1- walks in parks cum roll on the grass
(if i were to do that in any park in KL, i'll be stung by endless bugs and mosquitoes not to mention the glares and stares i'll recieve from others around me)

example2- sun bathing by the beach
(where's the nearest decent beach from KL?)

example3- mon-fri job
(what are the chances i can get a DECENT PAYING 9-5 mon-fri job? where i don't hafta work like a dog and way after hours which earns me a mere pay? not to mention the pathetic standing of the Ringgit among the other currencies plus having to wake up at 6am and leave the house by 7am so that you will not be caught in the notorious KL traffic; and get home by 8pm (if you're really lucky the boss doens't ask you to stay or get caught in the traffic again))

example4 - lack of appreciation of art and culture
(KL is yet to have great art and theatre performances like: The Lion King, Pavarotti, The New York Phil etc. the reason being there is insufficient demand)

the list can go on... i choose to stop there. in addition, everytime i return i feel like a foreigner in this place i used to call home whereby everything is so familar yet strangely foreign at the same time. more so, i feel out of place. as if, i don't fit into the social norm.

don't get me wrong, KL is a beautiful and exciting city with loads to explore and experience. with the unique blend of local and foreign culture (predominantly Western-American) and the FOOD!!! assam laksa, 'yau yu ong choy', char keuy teaow, yong tau foo, tau foo far... omg... and of course the beautiful family, friends and loved ones...

sigh... as much as i want to settle in KL, i don't want to as well... see how lar...
